Hi all.
I think it would be nice if we could choose difficulty level for blingo so it could be an easy level for people when English is not their first language and a more difficult level for English speaking people.
Because English is not my first language it's difficult for me to play and some of the words i never heard before.
What do you all think?
Nikos

I am glad you like the idea.
I just played blingo and i lost because i didn't know the word. The word was pinto. Can anyone tell me what that means please?
I never heard that before.

you and me both. a lot of words in that game are ones you would never think of. who made the word list for this game anyway. a brainy person?

trill time to the ones who don't speak english that well. yes i think that's a great idea.

well, it's not like we can set a difficulty level. I mean, there are tons of five-lettter words, and some may know them, and others may not. You can't really set a difficulty level for this kind of game. It's not that easy, seeing as all the words are the exact same size.

Well I really like that idea. I mean - this even would prove how good my English is! I would try the easier one and if this is too easy, I will try the harder one.

I like that IDea. It would prove how good my English is: I first try the easy one and if this is too easy for me I wil ltry the hard version.

oy the multiples!

How would this be implemented? For example, we have 3,806 blingo words. To judge if a word was difficult or not, some human would have to go through every word and categorize it. Or perhaps there's another way?

I don't know how that could happen but i i am wondering if the words for blingo and the words for hangman are the same because hangman seams easier.

Post 13 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Tuesday, 22-Nov-2005 19:09:26

Probaply hangman is easier because it doesn't really matter how many letters are each word. The reason why i suggested the difficulty level is because i have got a talking dictionary with word games and there we can choose if we want elementary, intermidiate etc. But i don't know how easy it is to happen in here. It doesn't sound easy anyway.

i have that as well. it's cool

The only way I could see this working is if they made an option where after you played a blingo round, you could rate the words difficulty level. I don't know how often blingo gets played, so it might take a few months to get all the words rated. Then it could be set up so that when a player picked the easy level, they'd get only the words that other players flagged as easy. This would still be rather subjective, but I'm not sure how else it could be done.

Interesting idea.

The only sort of simple solution I can see would be to have a different game like deduction. Deduction makes you guess the correct combination of letters after they are randomly selected by the computer. All of the other rules regarding blingo could still apply. The letters could be in combinations of 5 and you would get 5 guesses before losing. The points and score board could be kept the same. Just a thaught for whenever someone is bored and wants to write it.

Deduction, isn't that jotto, would be relatively simple since most of the code is there. Hmmmm. To answer another question, Blingo and hangman use different word lists.

Post 19 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Thursday, 24-Nov-2005 22:23:28

wouldn't they have to? seems obvious to me that they wouldn't use the same lists, not all of hangman is 5lettered

Post 20 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Thursday, 24-Nov-2005 23:39:21

well blingo could use all five-letter hangman words. but it doesn't, lol.

Post 21 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Saturday, 26-Nov-2005 14:57:15

Correction to myself. Jotto is basically the same as Blingo. I think the one some of you are thinking of is Mastermind, with the letters A through F.

Post 22 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Monday, 28-Nov-2005 6:18:02

Limiting it to just 6 letters would make things easier, but I like the idea of all the letters. Perhaps we could make the game have two levels of dificulty? The easy version would only include letters a through f and the harder version would incorporate them all. What do u alll think?

Good idea.
